‘My name is Doctor Beyond. Welcome to The Asylum of Musical Delusion. No one has ever escaped. This island is an ideal place for such an institution, particularly in castle, high on a mountain. These are the patients you’ll be looking after. This ward houses our most dangerous inmates. They’re mainly incurable. These poor souls suffer from what is known as ‘Severe Musical Delusion Syndrome’.
(Opening of a cell door – the disturbing wailing of a madman can be heard). ‘Give me a recording contract, please! I’ve written another song!!’ (The door slams shut)
‘You see how pitiful they are – he believes his singing is like a chorus of Angels.’
‘That’s what these delusionals are like – they can persuade themselves their music is good, but they can’t persuade anyone else. Beware, though, some have the power of hypnosis, which we must resist. They must wear straight jackets and we’ve all had all recording equipment and instruments taken from them. We get them referred from studios, bands, record companies and friends. Now this patient is showing signs of recovery.’
Footsteps stop, sound of a some pipes playing can be heard, cell shutter is opened)
‘He’s responded to treatment, he’s becoming more realistic, so we‘ve taken his straight jacket off and allowed him a set of simple pipes to play.’
He plays the pipes as he looks out through the bars of the cell window. As you can hear, he might be fit enough, one day, to be released back into the community.’
(shutter is closed)
‘Still, be careful when you go into any cell, don’t look the patients in the eye and keep heavy sedation at hand. If they can, they’ll try to trap you into their musical nightmare …’
Chorus:
Prisonnier des rêves brisez vos chaînes!
échappez de la tour ancienne
Prisoner of Dreams it’s a world of fantasy
Prisoner of Dreams somehow you must find the key
Prisoner, Prisoner of Dreams, Prisoner, Prisoner of Dreams
Welcome to the asylum of musical delusion,
we’re here to make you well
We help those who are trapped in an illusion,
only we can break the spell
Chorus:
Chorus
On a faraway island on in a castle of dreams,
The prisoner looks out from his cell
On his magic pipes he plays a tune,
Hoping the friendly dragon will rescue him soon
Chorus
Deep in the woods the friendly dragon dwells,
Thousands of years have passed
Only waiting to break the spell,
There are so many stories to tell
Chorus
